Sutras and Sub-Sutras in Vedic Maths

Vedic Maths or Vedic Mathematics is a collection of methods or Sutras to solve most calculations quickly and faster. It consists of 16 Sutras and 13 Sub Sutras. By applying Sutras we can save a lot of time and effort in solving problems.

1. Ekadhikena Purvena
              – By one more than the one before.
2. Nikhilam Navatashcaramam Dashatah 
              – All from 9 and last from 10
3. Urdhva Tiryagbhyam
              – Vertically and crosswise
4. Paravartya Yojayet
               –  Transpose and Apply 
5. Sunyam Samyasamuccaye 
               – If the samuccaya is the same it is zero
6. Anurupye Sunayamayat
               – If one is in ratio, the other is zero
7. Sankalana Vyavakalanabhyam 
               – By addition and by subtraction
8. Puranapuranabhyam 
              –  By the completion or Non completion
9. Chalana Kalabhyam
               – Differential calculus
10. Yavadunam 
                 – By the deficiency
11. Vyastisamastih 
                 –  Specific and general
12. Sesanyankena Caramena
                 – The remainders by the last digit
13. Sopantyadvayamantyam
                 – The ultimate and twice the penultimate
14. Ekanyunena Purvena
                 – By one less than the one before
15. Gunitasamuccayah 
                – The product of the sum
16. Gunakasamuccayah 
                – All the multipliers

    SUBSUTRAS
    These  corollaries are derived from the main formulas ( sutras) and offers additional methods that facilitate faster and easier calculations. 
    1. Anurupyena 
                 – Proportionately 
    2. Sisyate Sesasmjnah 
                 – The remainder remains constant
    3. Adyamadyenantyamantyena 
                  – The first by the first and the last by the last
    4. Kevalaih Saptakam Gunyat 
                  – For 7 the multiplier is 143
    5.Vestanam 
                  – By osculation
    6.Yavadunam Tavadunam
                  – Lesson by the deficiency
    7. Yavadunam Tavadunikrtya Varga Yojayet 
                   – Whatever the deficiency, less on by that amount and set up the square of the deficiency.
    8. Antyayordasake ‘pi 
                  – Last totalling 10
    9.Antyayoreva
                  – Only the last terms
    10. Samuccayagunitah
                  – The sum of the products
    11.Lopanasthapanabhyam
                  – By alternate elimination and retention
    12. Vilokanam 
                  – By mere observation
    13. Gunitasmuccayah Samuccayagunitah 
                  – The product of the sum is the sum of the products
